Mission Digital Enhances Their Workflows with DC600M SSDs

Challenges in digital imaging

Mission Digital's existing hard disk RAID systems struggled with the high data volumes and speed requirements of 8.6K raw resolution footage. These systems were not only slow and noisy but also energy intensive, leading to inefficiencies in data offloading.

With up to 7.68TB of capacity and features like Power-Loss Protection, this solid-state drive instantly transformed Mission Digital's workflow by doubling data transfer speeds and significantly reducing offloading times.

Workflow transformation

Mission Digital replaced their hard drives with Kingston's DC600M SATA SSDs, allowing them to maximize the potential of their existing modern chassis and eliminating bottlenecks caused by slower drives. This upgrade enabled Mission Digital to offer high-speed storage solutions both as a service and for internal workflows, significantly boosting efficiency and productivity.

The enhanced performance of the SSDs also contributed to a quieter and more energy-efficient operation, addressing some of the key pain points associated with the old hard disk RAID systems, particularly when on set and in remote locations.

Future prospects

Looking ahead, Mission Digital plans to expand its SSD offerings, incorporating high-speed RAID systems and encrypted drives to ensure data security. They also aim to continue upgrading their client-facing infrastructure, transitioning from hard disk RAID systems to SSDs for a more seamless, faster experience.
